no matter how hard they try…

gay pro-lifers not pro-life enough?
On January 22, 2002, members of the Pro-Life Alliance of Gays and Lesbians (yes, PLAGAL) were arrested at the March for Life, allegedly at the behest of Nellie Gray, organizer of the March. While it’s fair to say that I disagree with the way these folks live their personal lives – but it strikes me as abhorrent to attempt to exclude them from efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade. After all, the only public policy issue they work on behalf of is the right to life. Frankly, I find PLAGAL members courageous in working in a coalition where they’re rarely welcomed with open arms. Conversely, I find those responsible for their arrest…cowardly and shameful. Still waiting on Miss Gray’s version of the story – but I suspect she won’t share it.
Pro-Woman? Hardly
As you may know, the Bush administration recently changed the regulations in the Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP), recognizing unborn children as…this is shocking, children. It would allow women who would otherwise not qualify for government assistance to actually receive crucial neo-natal medical care.
Predictably, the nags over at NARAL say that “This CHIP announcement is not a serious health care proposal. If it were, it would include low-income women as recipients for comprehensive health care.” Ok, is it just me, or does the word “woman” not appear in the name of this particular federal program. Seems to me it’s directed at CHILDREN.
But again, it’s predictable. Anything that might actually help real women in the real world is opposed by these hypocrites if they feel it might make the tiniest connection in someone’s mind between that mass of tissue they call an embryo and that beautiful bundle of joy we all call a baby.
