Are you kidding me? Geico will let me completely change my policy online – without talking to a soul? In 2 minutes? Just like that – they take financial responsibility for an entire new vehicle, sight unseen. A brave new world, this interweb. Odd that I’ve probably purchased 4 cars in the last five years – and I’ve never done the insurance-switcharoo online before. It’s always been a call to “my agent” (and by “my agent” I of course mean whoever answers the phone on the other end of that 800 number).
Know what I miss? Even the largest, faceless insurance agency – even there their first reponse to “I’m buying a new car and need to add it to my policy”?
“Congratulations!”
As it should be – buying a car *should* be exciting and something to celebrate, but of course not it so often is not. But the agent on the phone doesn’t know if your circumstance is a happy or sad one – so they still say “Congratulations!” It’s a nice touch.
Me: “Dad, I have good news and bad news.”
