So I’ve had an enduring saga with the new hunt for and purchase of new living room furniture. Ugh. What a pain in the arse. Style, fabric – and most annoying: color. Do you coordinate with the floor, accessories, other furniture, paint, the curtains? I mean, those are all loosely connected as it stands – but still…a pain.

Then there was the saga of the wrong delivery. But no, they (the delivery service) insisted – this is the couch on the form. Well, yes – I imagine it is, but do you think I actually bought a *purple* couch?! Turns out – the salesperson actually wrote up the couch NEXT to the one I picked out. Shame on me for not looking at the receipt more closely, I think.

So then it was back to the store. In the end, I made a different choice. An easy choice: I bought furniture that matches the dog.

I’ve coveted a nice flat screen television for my living room for some time. I’ve had one for about a year, but it’s not quite main tv-sized. (32″ LCD). But after a full day of shopping with Tom – I finally came home with a 40″ Samsung LCD. And the HD-DVD add on for the XBOX 360. For $200, btw, that’s a ridiculous deal.

Along with thousands of well-wishers, I stood on the corner of 20th and Eye Street and watched the funeral procession for President Ford from the Capitol Building to the National Cathedral. Hundreds of police officers standing at attention, taking their last opportunity to salute our 38th President. While they passed at a good pace, and the procession had come and gone in just a couple minutes – it’s the kind of thing that makes you grateful to live in DC.
