Ok – so I joined Twitter. I feel like such a lemming – but good grief – I only heard from eight different peopleabout how cool it is. Anyway – I’ve got a profile on Twitter, and joined the SXSW group. I see some great value in things like conference organizing – but holy crap – do I want little random (and often) pings on my cell or IM from people I don’t know about what kind of coffee they’re ordering RIGHT NOW?

Um, no thank you. If I’m going to “join” the SXSW community – let me see (easily) the list of folks to *choose* the ones I know and want to hear from while I’m here. Still – with the right critical mass of friends or contacts involved, it could be a killer tool for event-based activity – whether geographical or task-based.

And yet, people look at me like I’ve got two heads when I say that I think that Twitter is the most useless web service ever. I mean, as a concept, it’s cool, and I can certainly see the value of such a thing in a large conference setting. But oh my god, the inanity… (yes, I have a blog, so I generate my fair share of inanity for the internets. But I don’t text it to anyone’s phone.)
